New york: The US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker stated on Friday that Washington views Angola as a strategic ally and a key partner in developing Africa. She emphasized the country's prominent role in bilateral partnerships across various areas.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Allison Hooker made the remarks to the press after meeting with Angolan Foreign Affairs Minister T©te Ant³nio at the United Nations General Assembly headquarters in New York. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
The US diplomat said that her country strongly supports the Lobito Corridor, an important transportation and logistics route connecting the Port of Lobito in Angola's Benguela Province to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia.
"The Lobito Corridor represents a strategic opportunity to boost regional trade, improve connectivity, and accelerate economic development throughout Southern Africa," said the diplomat.
The Undersecretary of State said that Angola has played a crucial role in fostering this partnership and has been recognized by the US government as a central player in sectors such as infrastructure, continental connectivity, food security, and resilient agriculture.
During the meeting, the two delegations discussed strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Angola and the United States, as well as regional and multilateral issues, with a special focus on international peace and security.
