Works of Palace of Music, Theater of Luanda to start this year

Luanda – Angola’s minister of Culture and Tourism Felipe Zau announced this Monday in Luanda the start soon of the works on transformation of the former National Assembly premises into Palace of Music and Theatre.

The minister announced this during the central event to mark the National Culture Day (January 8), adding that the site will be used for cultural activities.

He also announced the creation of Artist House (Casa do

Artista) aimed to ensure social support for those who become members in the future.

The venue will undergo facelift and will be used through a public tender for the private or public-private management, associated with a cultural agenda to be approved in consensus for a certain period of time.

The minister also said that the sector is developing a recovery, rehabilitation and construction programme of infrastructure, which has already allowed 11 movie theaters rooms to start operating in Luanda, Benguela and Moçamedes.

He also highlighted the works of the Cultural Center of Huambo, a reference institution, which is almost ready, as well as engagement in the ´´Mbanza Kongo issue´´.

The event was marked by the tribute of great icons of Angolan culture, with the delivery of certificates of merit to musicians Carlitos Vieria Dais, Yola Semedo, Patrícia Faria, Amadeu Amorim, among others.

National Culture Day was established in 1979, during the swearing in of the managing bodies of the Association of Angolan Writers (UEA).
