Luanda: A World Bank Group delegation led by Senior Managing Director Axel Van Trotsenburg began on Monday a five-day visit to Angola to strengthen the institution's partnership with the country.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the delegation plans to meet with Angolan President Joo Louren§o, as well as the ministers of planning and finance. The agenda includes meetings with development partners, the private sector, and Angolan experts in economic and social policy. The delegation will also conduct field visits to significant sites such as the Luanda International Fair (FILDA), the Bita Water Project construction site, and Benguela Province. During these visits, the delegation will engage with local authorities and stakeholders in the Lobito Corridor.
On the last day of the mission, the delegation will participate in the public event "World Bank Academy," where three analytical papers on Angola's economic situation and outlook will be shared. In addition to senior World Bank executives, the delegation includes Ndiam© Diop, Regional Vice President for East Africa.
Van Trotsenburg, a Dutch-Austrian national, is responsible for development policy and partnerships. With 35 years of experience at the World Bank, he currently leads the institution's core development work within its Global Practices, which include equitable growth, finance and institutions, human development, infrastructure, and sustainable development. Van Trotsenburg ensures the integration of these areas into operations, with a particular focus on climate change, fragility, human capital, and debt sustainability issues. He also oversees the World Bank's numerous partnerships with the United Nations, international financial institutions, and bilateral partners.
Axel van Trotsenburg chairs the reconstitution of the International Development Association (IDA) and represents the Bank at G7 and G20 meetings. He also leads the Bank's commitment to combating climate change at the annual COP conference.
