Youth Literature Brigade focuses on training Angolan writers

The national chairperson of the Angolan Youth Literature Brigade (BJLA), Carlos Pedro, highlighted this Thursday, in Huambo Province, the contribution of the organization in training Angolan writers and increasing the literacy of the population.

He was speaking at the opening of the 2nd National Meeting of the Literary Brigade, which is being held in Huambo City, with the participation of delegates from the 18 provinces of the country, under the motto “To the breath of literature, no one will stop the rain”.

In his speech, Carlos Pedro said that through BJLA´s activities and the creativity of its members, the liking for reading among children and youth of the country has increased, especially in rural communities, where literacy is still not felt regularly.

The BJLA chairperson, who is also a writer, informed that the members of the organization have known how to interpret their true role in the literary education of society, by raising awareness and encouraging young people, particularly students, to cultivate the practice and love for reading and writing.

According to him, for its historical trajectory, BJLA has trained many writers, which currently inspires many lovers of writing and through their works, have been making Angolan culture increasingly rich and dynamic.

Still in its intervention, Carlos Pedro reinforced that it is visible the dedication of the organization he leads in the spreading and preservation of the national literary collection, which honours the legacy of its patron, the founder of the nation, António Agostinho Neto.

Therefore, he said that BJLA will continue with its projects such as “Literary excursion let’s discover Angola”, “Community library generation that reads”, “Literature in women and “Empowerment of women writers” and “Intergenerational encounter between the new and old generation of writers”, to strengthen its actions in the promotion of national culture.

Therefore, the director of the office of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports in Huambo Province, Jeremias Piedade Chissanga, highlighted the historical development of BJLA, given its demanding role in promoting young Angolan writers.

For this reason, he reaffirmed the availability of the provincial government to continue to support the actions of the youth organization, so that the population, especially the youth gain the practice of reading.

The three-day event will analyze the annual activities report for 2022, activities plan for 2023, the organization´s statutes, literary manifesto and standardization of the main literary projects of BJLA.

The programme also includes a trip to the Municipality of Bailundo, where the Literature Brigade will meet with the local king, in Ombala Yo Mbalundu, and will also offer several books.

The Youth Literature Brigade of Angola is represented in all provinces of the country and has been in Huambo since 1980.
