Mbanza Kongo – The governor of Zaire province, Pedro Makita Armando Júlia, highlighted this Saturday, in Mbanza Kongo, the sacrifice consented by former combatants and homeland veterans in the fight against Portuguese colonialism.
Speaking during the symbolic act commemorating 15 January, the Day of Former Combatants and Homeland Veterans, the governor reiterated the will and commitment of the Angolan government to continue working to gradually improve the living conditions of this section of society.
According to him, the Angolans will continue to honour and defend the conquests already achieved in the most varied domains of political, economic and social life.
For the new generations, Armando Júlia called for continuous patriotic education, solidarity, respect and love for the neighbour in order to honour and dignify all those who sacrificed their lives for the country.
On his turn, the director of the provincial office of the Former Combatants and Homeland Veterans, Domingos Rafael, besides defending the increase of the monthly pension attributed to the former combatants also asked for the subsidy of the electric power and drinking water tariffs in favour of the assisted ones.
