Zorgho: The first edition of the Ganzourgou Interfaith Cup (Maracana) for Peace and Social Cohesion was inaugurated at the "Nons-Raaga" in Zorgho. The event, spearheaded by Pastor Emmanuel Wangraoua, seeks to enhance coexistence among the province's varied religious communities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the launch ceremony saw participation from representatives of all religious groups, featuring two inaugural sporting events. The initial match saw a victory for the Catholic team over the traditional team with a score of 1-0. In the second match, the Muslim team narrowly defeated the Protestant team, ending with a scoreline of 2-1.
The promoter highlighted that the competition's primary aim is to reignite the spirit of peace and social cohesion among the local population. Pastor Wangraoua expressed, "We organized this cup to unify all the daughters and sons of Ganzourgou. In families, we see Catholics, Muslims, Protestants, and traditionalists living in harmony. Why not extend this understanding to the broader society?"
The initiative received support from the local communities, each forming a team to compete in the tournament. Matches are set to continue leading up to the final, scheduled for August 2, 2025, in Zorgho. The event will be held under the patronage of High Commissioner Aminata Sorgho/Gouba and sponsored by Pastor Samuel Kalkoumdo, with special advisor to the President of Faso, Ragnang-newind© Isidore Tiemtor©, as the guest of honor.
The organizers aspire that this competition will inspire other regions in the country to undertake similar initiatives, thereby strengthening peace and cohesion among the different segments of Burkinabe society.
