MPLA attends conference in South Africa

Cape Town – MPLA party is attending the conference of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), which starts Monday (05)in Cape Town, South Africa.

The African Peer Review Mechanism is an instrument established by the African Union in 2003.

APRM comprises 36 countries and is aimed to assess member countries in terms of democracy and governance.

At the two-day meeting, the ruling party in Angola, which is attending the event as guest, is represented by a delegation headed by the vice-president, Luísa Damião, who arrived on Sunday afternoon.

On the first day of the meeting, participants are expected to discuss the strategic significance of political parties in building peace and socio-economic development in Africa.

The agenda for the first day of the meeting also foresees the appreciation of the normative instruments of the African Union, also known as shared values.

Luísa Damião highlighted the presence of the MPLA at the meeting, as it is a multi-party platform and a mechanism within the framework of the African Union.

“We have many proposals for this event because pertinent and current issues will be addressed”, said the politician.

The Angolan delegation to the meeting includes the secretary of the Political Bureau of the MPLA for International Relations, Manuel Augusto, and Luís Mota, member of the Central Committee.

Also joining the delegation are Leonel Martins, director of the vice president’s office, Manuel Figueiredo, director of the Central Committee’s study and analysis coordination office, Bernardo Catoto, head of the International Relations department of the Central Committee.
