Sfax hosts 22nd edition of National Mental Health Days (April 19 to 20)


SFAX: “Mental Illnesses, Psychological and Biological Causes,” represented the theme of the 22nd edition of the National Mental Health Days, which started, on Friday, in Sfax and will continue until the 20th. The event is held at the initiative of the Association for Research and Studies in Mental Health of Sfax.

Speaking to TAP, University hospital professor in psychiatry at the School of Medicine of Sfax, Jihene Ben Thabet Kammoun, said that the event’s theme was selected because the increasing psychological pressures at work as well as in the social and economic life likely to impact people’s mental health.

«Nowadays, mental illnesses are treated through psychotherapy as well as medication» she added.

This scientific event provides for the organization of several training workshops on different types of psychological treatments as well as workshop for family doctors in an effort to improve the quality of Tunisian citizens’ mental health.

The second day of the event will focus on various psychological t
reatments and the approach between the physical health and the psychological one. It will be monitored by a panel of hospital doctors from various medical schools in Tunisia and abroad.

Pilgrimage to El Ghriba to be limited to rituals inside temple this year (Perez Trabelsi)


Tunis: This year’s pilgrimage to the El Ghriba synagogue in Djerba will be limited to religious rituals inside the synagogue, the head of its committee, Perez Trabelsi, said on Friday.

In a statement, a copy of which was obtained by TAP news agency, Trabelsi expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by all the authorities to ensure that religious rituals could take place in the synagogue in the best possible way.

“Tunisia and Djerba will remain a country of tolerance, coexistence and peace,” he added.

Tunisia-China: Resumption of work on “Oum Lakhcheb” project in Metlaoui under review


Tunis: Negotiations have taken place between Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, and a high-level delegation from the Chinese company “WENGFU”, in charge of implementing the production unit of the “Oum Lakhcheb” project in Metlaoui, Gafsa governorate.

The aim is to resume work on this project and resolve the issues raised during a meeting held for this purpose on Friday, according to a statement from the ministry.

The Oum Lakhcheb phosphate washing plant is a development project under the phosphate and derivatives sector support programme.

It aims to increase production capacity to approximately 2.4 million tonnes per year, which represents a 30% increase in the production capacity of the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG). This project will also create 600 jobs, according to the same source.

Tunisia partakes in ECOSOC Youth Forum


Tunis: Tunisia is relying on young people in devising and implementing strategies and programmes for sustainable development and improving the social and economic situation, said Tunisian representatives at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum, held on April 16-18 in New York.

Led by Tunisia’s Permanent Representative to UN Tarek Ladab, the delegation stated that Tunisia will remain proud of its youth and its achievements at the national and international levels and considers them as its most important resource, while seeking to ensure that they are bearers of a message of peace, work and edification, and players in the creation of a peaceful, united, balanced and sustainable Tunisian and international society.

The Tunisian delegation further reviewed the various decisions made for the benefit of the youth and which aim to increase their involvement in decision-making and listen to their concerns and proposals, as well as the programmes to empower, integrate and protect them against all form
s of exclusion, marginalisation, radicalisation and terrorism.

The Tunisian representatives recalled the genocide and violations against the youth and children in Gaza and in all the Palestinian territory, reiterating call to the international community and the Security Council to shoulder their responsibilities and stop the occupation forces’ war crimes and attacks.

Mrabet, Africa CDC delegation discuss creation of National Public Health Agency


Tunis: There is need to speed up the setting up of the National Public Health Agency so as to reinforce the health sector’s governance and improve its performance, Health Minister Ali Mrabet said at a meeting held on Thursday with a delegation of experts from the African Union Commission (AUC).

Mrabet further commended the initiative of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) to support Tunisia in setting up this agency, which “will boost coordination between the Health Ministry’s technical administrations and contribute to the restructuring and governance of the health sector and improving its performance and efficiency,” reads a Health Ministry press release.

The Africa CDC’s six-day visit to Tunisia (April 17-22) aims to review the setting up of the National Public Health Agency and the formation of a team to work on the various aspects of this project.
