Angola Advances Energy Transition Solutions for African Continent

Luanda: Angola is actively investing in energy transition initiatives and is extending these solutions to benefit the African continent, Foreign Minister Téte António announced on Monday during the Second African Climate Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He emphasized Angola's significant role within the African Union in contributing to the climate agenda, underscoring the nation's dedication to devising African-centric solutions for sustainable development. According to Angola Press News Agency, Téte António highlighted Angola's National Strategy on Climate Change, which serves as a framework for public policies aimed at fostering resilient growth. This strategy prioritizes diversifying the energy matrix, boosting renewable energy production, and managing natural resources sustainably. The Angolan government's investments in hydroelectric, solar, and wind energy, alongside initiatives to conserve biodiversity and combat desertification, are pivotal to mitigating climate change impacts and ensuring regional f ood security. The Foreign Minister also pointed out the unique contributions each African Union member state can offer, advocating for the exchange of experiences to forge a united front in international climate negotiations. During the summit, African leaders emphasized the critical need for increased international financing, which remains a significant hurdle, and called for a cohesive African stance ahead of the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP) in Brazil in November.
