Abidjan:Angola's Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mario Oliveira, emphasized the need for Africa to enhance its capacity to design, develop, and implement space solutions that align with its priorities during the Africa Space Expo (ASPEX 2026) in Abidjan.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Oliveira called for increased African collaboration to transform space technology into developmental solutions for the continent. He stressed the importance of connecting existing capabilities and talent to create markets and turn knowledge into tangible results.
During the event, which runs until Saturday, Oliveira presented Angola's strategic vision for using space technologies to drive economic development, digital transformation, and strengthen cooperation among African nations. He highlighted initiatives like ANGOSAT-2 and the 'Conecta Angola' program, which have established 43 connection points in educational and health institutions, benefiting over 366,000 people in rural areas. The program also includes 77 internet service providers.
Oliveira noted the impact of ANGOSAT-2's capabilities across Angola, as well as Namibia, South Africa, Mozambique, and Zambia. He also mentioned the development of Angola's first Earth observation satellite, ANGEO-1, and the country's involvement in the international Space4Ocean Alliance for ocean protection.
In a press release, the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication highlighted that Angola's participation in ASPEX 2026 demonstrates its commitment to linking science, technology, connectivity, and innovation to national development goals and fostering an integrated African space ecosystem.
