Luanda: The Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Angola, Constantin Mayiba, emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation with Angola, particularly in the economic, commercial, and transport sectors. The statement was made in Luanda following a meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ado de Almeida, where discussions were centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation across various fields.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the diplomat expressed satisfaction with the progress in economic cooperation between Angola and the DRC, especially in the fishing and hydrocarbon sectors. He noted that mechanisms are in place to monitor the purchase and sale of these products, with some issues nearing resolution. The ambassador also commended the increase in transportation links between Luanda and Kinshasa, including the initiation of operations by a Congolese airline, which enhances mobility.
The intensification of air and land connections is seen as a concrete indication of closer ties between the two nations, which share strong historical, cultural, economic, and security relationships. In terms of parliamentary relations, Ambassador Mayiba described them as "very good and positive," underscoring a conducive environment for deepening cooperation.
He highlighted the potential role of the Parliaments in promoting peace and security, noting the supportive stance of Angola's National Assembly concerning the situation in eastern DRC. This position is viewed as a sign of fraternity and solidarity, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict in the region, which has claimed many lives.
Bilateral relations between Angola and the DRC are focused on diplomatic, economic, and border security cooperation, managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The governments are actively discussing initiatives to bolster trade, investment, and inter-ministerial cooperation.
