Luanda: The Minister of State for Defense and Security to the Presidency of the Republic of Botswana, Moeti Caesar Mohwasa, reaffirmed on Monday the interest of his country in strengthening cooperation with Angola in different fields. Speaking to the press at the end of a working visit to Soyo city, northern Zaire province, the official highlighted the energy, petroleum refining, and defense and security sectors as priority areas for mutual beneficial cooperation.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Moeti Caesar Mohwasa advocated closer cooperation between African countries, especially the member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), considering the exchange of investments between the two nations fundamental. "I believe that we have to work together as Africans and countries that are part of the SADC region, before we direct our attention outside our continent and our sub-region," he reiterated.
The official also considered it necessary for each African country to first consolidate the foundations of its internal development in order to guarantee better conditions for its population and, subsequently, contribute to the development of the region as a whole. Regarding the visit to Soyo, Moeti Caesar Mohwasa considered the trip to the municipality positive, which he classified as a highly industrialized region, a result of Angola's openness to foreign investment.
"I noticed the export capacity of the economic infrastructures I visited, especially the Angola LNG liquefied gas processing plant," she said. At the Angolan Navy Base (MGA), the minister praised the level of organization and modernization of the facilities as well as the presence of young officers in command of large ships.
The minister also congratulated Angola on its capacity in the defense sector, which also conveys a certain confidence for the stability of Africa and the SADC sub-region as a whole. Angolan Secretary of State for National Defense, Domingos Andr© Tchikanha, on his turn, said that Angola and Botswana expect to sign agreements in the field of defense and security during the three-day working visit of the president of this country, Duma Gideon Boko, to Angola, which began on Monday.
