Toledo: Angola has declared its backing for the new strategic vision of the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) aimed at transforming the tourism sector into a vehicle for sustainable and inclusive development. This endorsement was voiced by Angola's Minister of Tourism, M¡rcio Daniel, during the 126th Session of the Executive Council held in Toledo, Spain, where member states gathered to establish guidelines for the sector for the 2026-2029 period.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Minister Daniel emphasized the strategic vision of the new UN Tourism Secretary-General, Shaikha Al Nowais. The Secretary-General advocates for an approach rooted in continuous dialogue and international cooperation, underscoring the need for a more innovative, sustainable, and results-oriented tourism sector. In his address, the Angolan minister highlighted the critical role of human capital in public tourism policies and advocated for initiatives to strengthen professional qualifications, create opportunities for young people, and empower women, which he identified as essential components for enhancing competitiveness.
Minister Daniel also underscored the importance of overcoming challenges such as transport, energy, and digital connectivity, which continue to impede the growth of the tourism sector in Africa. He called for more inclusive and balanced global solutions to mobilize funding and address these structural barriers.
The 126th Session of the Executive Council is focusing on key themes essential for the future of global tourism, including technological innovation, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and the development of human capital. Angola, which was inaugurated as a member of the UN Tourism Executive Board in November 2025, plays a significant role in shaping global tourism policies. The country holds the vice-presidency of the Commission for Africa and is involved in the institution's Online Training Committee.
The session's activities in Toledo continue with technical debates and bilateral meetings among delegations from the member states, fostering further dialogue and cooperation in the sector.
