Angola LNG Plant Schedules July Shutdown for Maintenance

Soyo: The Angola LNG Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) processing plant, situated in Soyo, Zaire province, is set to temporarily cease operations starting July 1 for a comprehensive maintenance period lasting 32 days.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the announcement was made by Adelino Kai, the deputy municipal administrator of Soyo for the technical area, infrastructure, and community services.

Adelino Kai noted that this will be the third general maintenance shutdown since the plant's inception in 2012, with previous shutdowns occurring in 2018 and 2022, adhering to a four-year maintenance schedule. The deputy director confirmed the implementation of an environmental management contingency plan to mitigate any potential air pollution from gas flaring during this maintenance phase.

The maintenance process is deemed essential for enhancing the performance, reliability, and safety of the plant's equipment, ensuring improved operational efficiency. A joint commission has been established to oversee the production halt and its subsequent activities.

The Angola LNG plant boasts an installed capacity of producing up to 5.2 million tons of LNG annually. Currently, the plant operates at approximately 70 percent of its capacity, producing around 700 million cubic feet of gas daily, with expectations for peak production later in the year.
