Huambo: The Civil Protection and firefighters in Huambo province successfully concluded their search on Tuesday by recovering the bodies of two children, aged four and six, from the Cuando River reservoir. The children had been missing for four days, leading to a strenuous search effort.
According to Angola Press News Agency, SPCB deputy inspector Francisco Muhepa Joaquim reported that the tragic incident took place last Saturday when the children entered the reservoir without supervision. The recovery operation saw the first child's body found on Monday, with the second being discovered on Tuesday following intensive efforts by SPCB specialists.
Joaquim urged parents and guardians to exercise extra caution and prevent children from accessing water bodies like rivers, lakes, and reservoirs unsupervised to avert such tragedies in the future. Since January, the SPCB has documented nine drowning fatalities, including both children and adults, across the municipalities of Huambo and Caala.
