Luanda – Ombudsman’s Offices of Angola and Mozambique Thursday (21) in Luanda signed a bilateral cooperation agreement in the field of defence of the rights, freedoms and guarantees of the citizens of the two countries.
The agreement paves the way for the creation of conditions for the sharing of knowledge and exchange of experiences.
The deal also ensures the institutional strengthening and facilitating the access of citizens in the country and abroad to the respective Ombudsmen.
With the aforementioned legal instrument, the parties also intend to carry out periodic exchanges of informative, didactic and study materials, as well as to encourage the exchange of information and legislation.
Signed the document the Angolan Ombudsman, Florbela Araújo, and her Mozambican counterpart, Isaque Chande.
Florbela Araújo stressed the importance of the agreement, adding that the move will allow Angola to gather Mozambique’s experience on the implementation of local authorities.
Mozambique, on the other hand, will be able to acquire knowledge related to the expansion of the ombudsman’s services.
In addition to Luanda, Angola has expanded Ombudsman services to the provinces of Bengo, Cunene, Malanje, Lunda Sul, Cuanza Sul and Huambo.
The Mozambican Ombudsman, Isaque Chande, said that although the institution has been in operation for ten years in his country, it has not yet started the expansion process, being only established in Maputo.
Isaque Chande said that Angola and Mozambique will create mechanisms to facilitate the training of staff from the two institutions.
The ceremony was attended by the ombudsmen from Portugal, Brazil, Cabo Verde, East Timor and São Tomé and Príncipe, who have been in Angola as part of the Ombudsman’s week, held on 19- 28 April.
