Luanda: Angola is working to strengthen its legal framework and regulatory oversight to build a safer, more predictable environment for foreign and domestic investment, Justice and Human Rights Minister Marcy Lopes said on Tuesday. Speaking at the opening of the 5th International Forum on Business and Human Rights in Luanda, Lopes urged corporate leaders to take greater responsibility for protecting basic rights across their operations.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Angola, Africa's second-largest crude oil producer, is pushing to diversify its economy away from oil dependence. Lopes noted that economic diversification and investment attraction must move hand-in-hand with environmental protection and community rights. He called for the strict implementation of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights to ensure companies prevent abuses across their supply chains and commercial relationships.
Lopes added that the government maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption as part of efforts to improve the business climate. The forum, supported by the Norwegian Embassy, brings together officials and business leaders to discuss corporate responsibility, community inclusion, and environmental sustainability.
