Luanda: The Finance Minister, Vera Daves de Sousa, reaffirmed on Tuesday the Angolan government's commitment to improving the business environment, diversifying the economy, and strengthening internal security. Speaking at the 6th Meeting of Ministers and Heads of the Coordinated Border Management Committee (CGCF), Daves de Sousa emphasized the committee's role in implementing government policy regarding trade facilitation and ensuring the safe, legal movement of people and goods, while preventing illicit activities at the nation's borders.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Daves de Sousa highlighted the evolution of the new regulatory framework that enhances the Committee's operations. This transition involves moving from a programmatic approach to an integrated model that leverages adequate infrastructure, interoperable technology, and coordinated operational forces. The goal is to boost the effectiveness and efficiency of border control activities, improve revenue collection, strengthen societal protection, and minimize delays at border areas sustainably.
Vera Daves acknowledged the progress made, citing the institutional consolidation and the unity, cohesion, and cooperation among CGCF bodies. "This is an institutional asset that we must preserve and strengthen, as it is directly linked to defending the nation's superior interests and affirming the sovereignty of the Angolan state," she remarked.
The Finance Minister also underscored the valuable cooperation with international partners, including the United Nations, the World Bank, and the World Trade Organization. This collaboration has bolstered the credibility of Angola's national border system and facilitated international capacity-building and experience-sharing initiatives. It has enabled technical visits and multidisciplinary missions to countries like Japan, Portugal, and Brazil, as well as the acquisition of resources and equipment for enhanced border control.
Looking towards 2026, Vera Daves indicated that the CGCF aims to expand its cooperation by exploring new partnerships and adopting solutions tailored to national specificities. While acknowledging the challenges ahead in modernizing Angola's borders, Daves stressed the undeniable progress made and the collective determination to advance with focus, institutional discipline, and strategic vision.
