Angola Set to Release 2024 Census Results Ahead of Schedule

Luanda: The final results of Angola's General Population and Housing Census (RGPH), conducted from September 19 to November 19, 2024, will be released in the second half of November this year, earlier than the initially planned end of 2026. According to Angola Press News Agency, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) has advanced the release date due to significant progress in processing, calculating, analyzing, and validating the Census data. The institute emphasized a new strategy focusing on the direct dissemination of final results instead of releasing preliminary data at the end of September. This move aims to provide more consistent and consolidated information to the public, reflecting INE's dedication to quality and technical rigor aligned with international best practices. The census involved 79,423 field agents, including census takers and supervisors, collecting data across the country. This is the second such census since Angola's independence in 1975, with the first conducted in 2014. The initial census recorded 25,789,240 inhabitants, with 63 percent residing in urban areas and 37 percent in rural areas. A majority of this population was female, constituting 52 percent, while males represented 48 percent. Luanda emerged as the most populous province, followed by Huíla, Benguela, and Huambo. Demographic data collection is crucial for planning and developing public policies across various sectors.
