Shanghai: The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperan§a da Costa, reaffirmed Wednesday in Shanghai, China, the government's continued investment in the training and empowerment of Angolan women.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Costa reviewed her working visit to Shanghai, where she participated in the 8th Annual Taihua Cultural Conference. She emphasized the importance of ensuring women's access to land, particularly for rural development. Costa advocated for women's access to markets, finance, and credit to enable them to undertake ventures, generate more income, and improve their quality of life.
Costa stressed that women's empowerment is not only a matter of social justice but also a crucial factor for sustainable development. She highlighted the Angolan government's programs and policies designed to enhance women's access to essential services. Among these initiatives are the Guarantee Fund and other proposed credit programs aimed at helping women, whether individually or in cooperatives, access funds to improve their family lives.
At the conference, Costa shared Angola's progress in promoting women's empowerment and the fight against violence and exploitation of women, girls, and young women. She underscored Angola's commitment, as the President of the African Union, to fostering inclusive development and social justice for African women.
Costa also highlighted Angola's advancements in regulatory frameworks, with specific legislation on women's equity and equality. She presented the country's legislative progress in combating violence against women and outlined measures to empower women through increased training opportunities, particularly in new technologies, to enhance their skills and job market access.
Additionally, Costa participated in the cultural conference aimed at fostering intercultural dialogue. She emphasized the importance of building bridges, exchanging experiences, and identifying common solutions to modern challenges through cultural traditions, ancestral practices, and contemporary customs.
