Dar es Salaam:Angola is set to share its experience in overcoming armed conflict and achieving national reconciliation at the Conference of Women Parliamentarians on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL). This contribution aims to support peace efforts in conflict-affected areas within the region.
According to Angola Press News Agency, MP Pedro Sebastião, chairman of the National Group for Monitoring the CIRGL Forum, emphasized Angola's unique perspective due to its history of prolonged armed conflict. Angola's experiences are considered valuable for countries currently facing instability and insecurity.
The initiative seeks to foster debate on the security and stability challenges in the region, with a focus on the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Sudan. These areas continue to suffer from ongoing conflicts that have significant humanitarian, social, and economic impacts, hindering development.
Pedro Sebastião highlighted the conference's goal of developing common understandings and solutions to aid in restoring peace to affected nations. He noted that stability in individual states has broader benefits for the region as a whole. The discussions are anticipated to yield recommendations and guidelines that can expedite peace and stability restoration.
The conference, held in Dar es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania, from November 2 to 5, features eight discussion panels. These panels will address various issues related to security, stability, and regional development, including a review of the 20 years since the signing of the Pact on Security, Stability and Development in the Great Lakes Region.
