Angolan Ambassador Advocates for Enhanced Investment Promotion in Argentina

Luanda: The Angolan ambassador to Argentina, Francisco Xavier, emphasized the need for greater dissemination and promotion of Angola's potential to attract more investments during a cultural festival celebrating 50 years of National Independence at the Michelangelo Center. He suggested that increased investment could lead to improved exchange between the two countries.

According to Angola Press News Agency, in his interview, the ambassador acknowledged a prevalent hesitation to invest in Africa, stemming from a lack of awareness about its true potential. Despite existing legal frameworks, like the Bilateral Joint Commission between Angola and Argentina, many agreements remain under-implemented, he noted.

The ambassador has been actively working to showcase Angola's opportunities not just in Argentina but also in Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Chile-countries within his jurisdiction. He has been traveling extensively to communicate this potential to these nations.

The cultural festival's first day featured Jovens do Prenda and was described by the ambassador as impactful in changing perceptions of Angola. He stressed the importance of resilience and forming new partnerships, especially given Argentina's current economic challenges.

Looking ahead, Francisco Xavier pointed to the upcoming meeting of the Bilateral Commission in Angola as a key event. This meeting is expected to further strengthen the bilateral ties and explore new avenues for cooperation.

Historically, Angola and Argentina have shared bilateral relations since May 27, 1985. The relationship has deep roots, dating back to the Atlantic slave trade era. Diplomatic relations formally began after Angola's independence in 1975, with Argentina recognizing the country in 1977.

A significant development in relations occurred with the official visit of Angolan President Jos© Eduardo dos Santos to Argentina in 2005, followed by former Argentine President Cristina Fern¡ndez de Kirchner's visit to Angola. The two nations have since entered various agreements, including those on trade, economic cooperation, agriculture, and visa elimination for diplomatic and service passport holders.
