Angolan Government Reaffirms Commitment to Housing Projects

Luanda:The Angolan government has reiterated its commitment to constructing new urban developments to provide safer housing and improve living standards for its citizens. According to Angola Press News Agency, the Ministry of Public Works, Urban Planning, and Housing (MINOPUH) emphasized this commitment in a statement issued to mark World Habitat Day. The statement highlighted the government's focus on implementing territorial planning, urban requalification, and settlement conversion initiatives. These efforts are aligned with Angola's long-term development goals outlined in the Angola 2050 Long-Term Strategy and the National Development Plan (2023-2027). The initiatives also adhere to international frameworks such as the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda. MINOPUH is actively working to strengthen institutions and train personnel in territorial planning and housing management. Angola is currently a member of the UN-Habitat Executive Board. The ministry underscored the importance of adopting civic attitudes to prevent building in risk areas, aligning with legal principles that protect the right to life. The government aims to transition vulnerable communities into safer, structured urban environments with adequate housing. World Habitat Day is observed globally on the first Monday of October, and in 2026, its theme will be "Adequate Housing for All."
