Luanda: Jos© do Amaral, the president of the Angolan Handball Federation (FAAND), has expressed satisfaction with Angola's 10th place finish in the Senior Women's World Championship held in Germany and the Netherlands. He regarded this achievement as a positive outcome for the team.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Amaral highlighted that the team successfully met its objective of improving upon their previous 15th place finish and securing a spot among the top 10 teams out of 31 participants. The federation president emphasized Angola's success in surpassing several countries known for their strong handball traditions, such as Switzerland, Sweden, Egypt, South Korea, China, and Spain.
Amaral acknowledged the support received from the supervising ministry, particularly from Minister Rui Falco. He noted that some aspects of their success were contingent on assistance from other sectors. Despite the positive results, the federation is currently facing financial challenges, including a four- to five-month debt with Spanish coach Carlos Viver and a 40 percent outstanding payment to the athletes. Amaral mentioned that 60 percent of the athletes' dues have already been settled during the process leading up to the World Championship.
The federation president assured that the outstanding payments would be addressed once the federation receives the remaining funds allocated for the event. There is also an intention to propose the renewal of coach Carlos Viver's contract, reflecting confidence in his leadership moving forward.
