Lisbon: Angolan President Joo Louren§o arrived today afternoon in Lisbon where he will carry out a 3-day official visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, from Friday (25 July). The Angolan Head of State landed at the Figo Maduro Military Air Base, accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Louren§o, and was received by members of the Portuguese Government, the Angolan ambassador to Portugal, Maria de Jesus Ferreira, and members of the Angolan delegation who are part of the presidential delegation.
According to Angola Press News Agency, President Joo Louren§o's agenda begins, this Friday (25), with a meeting with his Portuguese counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, after which joint statements to the press by the two Heads of State are planned. Also, on Friday, during the afternoon, Joo Louren§o will hold a working meeting with the Portuguese Prime Minister, Lus Montenegro, which will culminate in the signing of bilateral instruments between ministerial delegations from the two countries.
The program also includes a courtesy visit to the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic, where the Angolan statesman will be received by the President of that legislative body, Jos© Pedro Aguiar Branco. In the early evening, President Joo Louren§o and the First Lady will participate in an official dinner at the Ajuda National Palace, hosted by their Portuguese counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, where both heads of state will deliver speeches.
For Saturday (26), the highlight of the program will be the participation of Joo Louren§o, alongside Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in the 8th edition of the EurAfrican Forum 2025, which will take place at Universidade Nova - School of Business and Economics, under the motto: "Transforming Tomorrow: Building Global Partnerships to Deliver on the 2063 Agenda".
President Joo Louren§o's visit to Portugal is part of the strengthening of relations of friendship, cooperation and strategic partnership between the two countries, with emphasis on the economic, diplomatic, educational, health, infrastructure and tourism sectors. In recent years, ties between Angola and Portugal have seen a new impetus, with emphasis on the Strategic Cooperation Programme (PEC) 2023-2027, valued at 550 million euros, which provides for the implementation of structuring projects, the promotion of foreign direct investment and the increase of bilateral trade.
