New York: An Angolan delegation led by the Minister of Social Action, Family and Promotion of Woman, Ana Paula do Sacramento Neto, is participating in the 69th session of the 2025 Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), which commenced on Monday in New York, USA.
According to Angola Press News Agency, during the event, the Angolan Minister will address the “National Strategy,” a program initiated by the Angolan Executive. This program focuses on achieving gender equality and equity, combating poverty, and promoting social inclusion, among other initiatives currently being undertaken in Angola.
The Minister is scheduled to take part in several high-level meetings, roundtables, and bilateral meetings with counterparts and representatives from international organizations. One significant meeting includes discussions with Christine Stegling, the UNAIDS Deputy Executive Director for Policy, Advocacy and Knowledge.
Additionally, the agenda features a meeting with ministers responsible for gender issues from the Southern African Development Community (SADC). On Monday, the Commission on the Status of Women will adopt the Political Declaration, which reviews the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and identifies current challenges and strategies to further gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The Commission on the Status of Women, established by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 1946, is the principal body dedicated to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women globally. It provides an international forum for dialogue, assessing progress, formulating policy, and promoting global action on women’s rights. The annual event gathers representatives from member states, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders to discuss pertinent issues related to women’s rights.
