Angolan Parliament Speaker Advocates Rational Use of New Technologies

Geneva: Angolan National Assembly president, Carolina Cerqueira, emphasized in Geneva that the laws and principles of human rights defense outlined by the United Nations should guide the use of new technologies to maximize their benefits.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Cerqueira addressed the final meeting of the 6th World Conference of Parliament Speakers, highlighting that appropriate regulation is essential to minimizing risks while promoting peace and global understanding. She pointed out that Angola's parliamentary administration is advancing its digital data processing systems and enhancing technological capabilities to modernize the ethical regulation of artificial intelligence within the parliament.

Cerqueira also expressed gratitude to UIP President Tulia Akson for her commitment to enhancing parliamentary functions, which supports the growth of democracy both nationally and globally. The event marked the conclusion of the 6th World Conference of Parliaments at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, focusing on 'Parliamentary Cooperation and Multilateralism for Peace, Justice and Prosperity for All.'

The conference's agenda, agreed upon by consensus, emphasized 'parliamentary multilateralism cooperation for peace, justice, and prosperity for all.' Key discussions revolved around cybersecurity, the role of information and communication technologies in human rights defense, and the global challenge of migration.

The 6th World Conference of Parliament Presidents featured participation from over 120 parliamentary delegations worldwide, including 58 women presidents of parliaments and senates from all continents.
