Maputo: President Joo Louren§o of Angola sent a heartfelt message to his Mozambican counterpart, Daniel Chapo, emphasizing the solidarity and enduring friendship between Angola and Mozambique. This message was delivered by Carolina Cerqueira, the Speaker of the National Assembly, during her visit to Maputo for the 50th anniversary celebrations of Mozambique's national independence.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the message highlighted the spirit of brotherhood and the deep ties that unite the two nations. Carolina Cerqueira, representing Angola, met with the Mozambican President to discuss bilateral cooperation and the strengthening of historical relations. She emphasized the commitment of both countries' leaders to the well-being of their peoples amidst the current challenges facing the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region and the world.
The Speaker of the Angolan parliament underscored the importance of enhancing bilateral dialogue to promote peace. This, she noted, would enable Angola and Mozambique to present a unified and influential voice in regional and international affairs.
Relations between the two countries are longstanding and encompass various sectors, including defense, agriculture, justice, and more. Recent bilateral agreements have bolstered economic cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, and business mobility. In May, both nations signed agreements in air transport, health services, and technical cooperation to foster regional integration and economic development.
At the 50th anniversary celebrations in Mozambique, the Angolan delegation, which included deputies Ruth Mendes and Manuel Augusto, participated in key events. These included commemorations at Machava Stadium and a ceremony honoring Mozambican national heroes. Angola's involvement in these festivities is part of its broader effort to strengthen relations within the Southern African region and promote regional integration.
