Angolan Speaker Engages with Community in Cuba

Havana: The Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, on Sunday consulted and interacted with the Angolan community living in Cuba. The meeting is part of the agenda of the parliamentary leader's visit to Cuba to re-launch parliamentary cooperation.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the parliamentary leader delivered a message of encouragement and patriotic exaltation to Angolan citizens and emphasized the "important" significance of the visit to Cuba, as part of the celebrations of Angola's 50th anniversary of national independence. The Speaker informed those present about the major achievements underway in the country to celebrate the occasion with dignity, with infrastructure inaugurations and the promotion of conferences on future challenges, the importance of developing national human potential, economic and social development, and other cultural and political initiatives.

Regarding cooperation relations with Cuba, Carolina Cerqueira said that this country left an "indelible" mark by establishing itself as a "great example of fraternal solidarity" in the process of liberation and proclamation of Angola's national independence. The Speaker recalled that both countries maintain strategic cooperation in various areas, such as health, education, higher education, construction, and culture. The legacy of Cuban cooperation in the reconstruction and modernization of the Angolan homeland is evident.

Carolina Cerqueira opened a space for interaction with the community, which presented several concerns related to social and economic vulnerabilities that threaten the completion of studies for some university students, most of whom are financially dependent on their families. The MPs clarified the concerns raised during the meeting and expressed solidarity with the young people, committing to advocate on their behalf to resolve the difficulties they faced.

The Speaker of the National Assembly was accompanied by a delegation composed of deputies Manuel Dembo, Carla de Sousa, Helena Marciano, Alcides Sakala, Benedito Daniel, and the Secretary-General of the National Assembly, Pedro Agostinho de Neri.
