Angolan Youth Day Celebration Opens with National Event in Icolo and Bengo

Icolo and bengo: The Secretary of State for Youth, Danila Bragan§a, inaugurated the national celebration of Angolan Youth Day in Calumbo, Icolo and Bengo. This event marks the beginning of a month-long series of activities dedicated to reflecting on youth challenges and opportunities in Angola, culminating on April 14.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the celebration, known as "April Youth" Day, spans the entire month of April, emphasizing the importance of youth engagement in the country's sustainable development. The opening ceremony highlighted a range of activities, including sports, cultural events, and workshops on youth entrepreneurship.

During her speech, Secretary of State Bragan§a emphasized the significance of the occasion as a platform for young people to engage in dialogue, analysis, and reflection regarding their role in national development. She underscored the theme "Angolan Youth: Innovate, Transform and Develop Angola," urging young Angolans to invest in entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology to enhance their participation in society.

Provincial Director of Youth and Sports in Icolo and Bengo, M¡rio Lino, expressed pride in hosting the national opening, noting the responsibility it places on local youth to contribute actively to both provincial and national progress.

The event, held at the Zango II Cultural Center, included cultural performances, poetry readings, and the distribution of computer kits to various youth associations. Angolan Youth Day, observed on April 14, commemorates national hero Hoji-ya-Henda, an MPLA fighter who died in 1968. This day recognizes the enduring impact of youth in nation-building.

Looking ahead, the central event of "April 14" will be hosted in Malanje province next year and in Benguela province in 2025.
