Angola’s Road Rehabilitation Enhances National Connectivity

Luanda:Angola has rehabilitated and paved over 3,500 kilometers of national roads in the past nine years, as revealed by President Joao Lourenço during his State of the Nation address.

According to Angola Press News Agency, President Lourenço highlighted the government's maintenance of 999 kilometers of roadways and the paving of 279 kilometers of urban roads throughout the country. Additionally, the administration has constructed and rehabilitated 5,340 linear meters of permanent bridges and installed 2,100 linear meters of metal bridges, contributing to improved territorial connectivity. Currently, Angola's road network includes 79,300 kilometers, with 27,600 kilometers as national roads and 51,700 kilometers as municipal routes.

These infrastructure efforts have significantly reduced community isolation, enhanced mobility, and facilitated the transport of agricultural and mining products. They have also strengthened strategic logistics corridors between provinces and border areas. Recent infrastructure achievements include the road interchange for Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport in Icolo e Bengo and the Talatona junction in Luanda.

In the housing sector, Angola now boasts 18 urban centers with 40,419 housing units, benefiting over 2.4 million people. New developments have been established in Bengo, Cabinda, Lunda Sul, and Zaire, with thousands of completions in Luanda, Bie, Malanje, and Moxico. Furthermore, 370,000 plots have been made available for self-directed construction.

Looking forward, the government plans to persist with its infrastructure investments, including building approximately 6,500 housing units across various provinces and completing 147 kilometers of urban road projects in Sumbe, Lobito, Benguela, and Lubango.
