Mbanza kongo: The candidate for secretary general of the Democratic Bloc (BD), Benjamim Bunga, announced his plans to enhance the functionality of citizenship houses across the country, should he be elected. Bunga made this declaration in Mbanza Kongo, Zaire province, during the launch of his campaign.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Bunga's campaign comes ahead of the voting scheduled for the 29th, 30th, and 31st of this month at the 5th national convention of the Democratic Bloc. Previously serving as the head of the national secretariat of organization and mobilization, Bunga is vying for the position against the current secretary-general, Muata Sebastio. He outlined that the citizenship centers would function as legal support hubs for both national and foreign citizens residing in the country, bolstered by a jurisdictional and oversight body offering complimentary services to those seeking redress for perceived rights violations.
Bunga's agenda also prioritizes the establishment of political and ideological training centers to fortify the party's internal framework and to enhance relationships with other opposition political entities. A significant increase in the party's female membership is another key objective if he secures the election. During the upcoming conclave in Luanda, delegates are expected to elect three governing bodies: the national council, led by the party president, the national secretariat, and the jurisdiction and oversight committee. The Democratic Bloc, founded on July 4, 2010, has never independently contested in general elections. It was part of a coalition with CASA-CE in 2017 and allied with the United Patriotic Front (FPU) in 2022.
