Cholera Outbreak – Angola Registers 135 New Cases

Luanda: A total of 135 new cases of cholera were registered in the last 24 hours in the provinces of Luanda, Bengo, Icolo and Bengo, Malanje, and Cabinda.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Information Bulletin of the Ministry of Health (MINSA) updated the cholera data in the country, reporting three deaths in Luanda within the same timeframe.

Of the 135 cases reported, 89 are from Luanda, 28 from Bengo, 13 from Icolo and Bengo, 4 from Malanje, and one from Cabinda. During this period, 72 people were discharged, and 153 patients are currently hospitalized in different health units across the country. The ages of those affected range from 2 to 100 years, with 56% being male.

Since the outbreak began in January of the current year, a cumulative total of 4,717 cases have been reported. This includes 2,296 in Luanda, 1,778 in Bengo, 563 in Icolo and Bengo, 28 in Cuanza-Sul, 27 in Malanje, 8 in Huambo, 6 in Huila, 5 in Zaire, 3 in Cabinda, 2 in Cuanza-Norte, and a single case in Cunene.

In total, Angola has registered 166 deaths, with 71 in the province of Bengo, 70 in Luanda, 19 in Icolo and Bengo, 3 in Malanje, 2 in Cuanza-Sul, and one in Cabinda.
