Petro de Luanda Strengthens Lead with Victory Over Isaac de Benguela

Luanda: Petro de Luanda secured a crucial 3-2 victory against Isaac de Benguela on Saturday in the 17th round of the Girabola2024/25, held at the 11 de Novembro Stadium in Luanda. This win consolidates their position at the top of the National Football Championship standings with 43 points.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Petro de Luanda took an early lead in the match, scoring twice before halftime. Julinho opened the scoring in the 38th minute, followed by a goal from Brazilian Tiago Azulo in stoppage time (40+3'), both facilitated by an assist from Honduran midfielder Jonat Toro. The national champions continued their dominance in the second half, with central defender Kinito increasing the lead to 3-0 in the 62nd minute.

In the closing moments, Isaac de Benguela showed resilience with a late push that resulted in two goals. A defensive error led to an own goal by Vidinho in the 90+3' minute, and Kinho capitalized on a corner kick to score in the 90+5' minute. Despite these efforts, Isaac de Benguela, currently last in the league with 9 points, was unable to equalize the match.

The performance of Petro de Luanda's young talents, including right-back Caba§a and winger Il­dio, was notable, contributing significantly to the team's first two goals. Their involvement under the experienced guidance of Jonat Toro showcased the depth of Petro's squad.

Looking ahead, Petro de Luanda will travel to the province of Zaire for their next match against CD So Salvador do Kongo at the lvaro Buta Stadium on Wednesday, February 26. Meanwhile, Isaac de Benguela will face Kabuscorp do Palanca at the Coqueiros Stadium in Luanda.

This victory places Petro de Luanda firmly at the top of the league standings, followed by Wiliete de Benguela with 35 points, and 1° de Agosto in third place with 33 points.
