Luanda: A total of 150 new cases of cholera were reported in the last 24 hours in the provinces of Cuanza-Norte, Luanda, Bengo, Malanje, Icolo e Bengo, and Benguela.
According to Angola Press News Agency, which updates the cholera numbers in Angola, 5 deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours, with 2 in Malanje, and 1 each in Cuanza-Norte, Luanda, and Benguela. Of the 150 new cases, 59 are from Cuanza-Norte, 46 from Luanda, 15 from Bengo, the same number from Malanje, 9 from Icolo e Bengo, and 6 from Benguela.
During the aforementioned period, 98 people were discharged from hospitals, and 256 are currently hospitalized. Since the outbreak began in January this year, a cumulative total of 8,291 cases have been reported. The highest numbers are in Luanda with 4,072 cases, followed by Bengo with 2,443, and Icolo e Bengo with 805. Other affected regions include Cuanza-Norte with 416 cases, Benguela with 200, and Malanje with 196. Additional cases have been reported in Zaire, Cuanza-Sul, Cabinda, Huambo, Uge, Huila, Cunene, and Cubango.
In total, 318 fatalities have occurred, of which 152 were in Luanda, 92 in Bengo, and 34 in Cuanza-Norte. Other fatalities include 21 in Icolo e Bengo, 8 in Benguela, 6 in Malanje, 3 in Cuanza-Sul, and one each in Zaire and Cabinda.
