CPLP Observation Mission Established for Guinea-Bissau Elections

Luanda: The Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) has established an Observation Mission (MOE) for the Presidential and Legislative Elections in Guinea-Bissau scheduled for November 23, following a request from the Guinean authorities.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the MOE is led by Lieutenant General Luis Diogo de Carvalho, a former director of the CPLP's Center for Strategic Analysis. The mission comprises 22 international observers, including diplomats and technicians appointed by the Member States, deputies designated by the CPLP Parliamentary Assembly (AP-CPLP), and officials from the organization's Executive Secretariat.

The mission will remain in Bissau until November 25 to monitor the final phase of the electoral campaign, Election Day, the vote count, and the partial tabulation of results. It will work in coordination with other international organizations present, such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU).

The CPLP acknowledges the dedication of the authorities, presidential candidates, political parties, and the National Elections Commission (CNE) to conducting peaceful, inclusive, and simultaneous elections, reinforcing democracy within the Portuguese-speaking community.

A Preliminary Declaration will be issued at the conclusion of the mission and publicly delivered by the Head of Mission. Over the past five years, the CPLP has deployed missions in several Member States for various elections, highlighting its ongoing commitment to supporting democratic processes across its member countries.
