Lisbon: The Executive Secretary of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), Maria de F¡tima Jardim, reaffirmed the importance of continued intra- and inter-university cooperation in the field of education as a fundamental pillar of the organization.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the diplomat made the statement during a meeting with the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel. She emphasized that education, research, science, innovation, and technology constitute the basis of any society. Jardim highlighted that while education remains a priority, the Minister also underscored health as an equally essential area.
F¡tima Jardim mentioned that the CPLP maintains previous commitments in the field of food and nutritional security, noting that existing strategies that are nearly complete will undergo review. She discussed the necessity of incorporating new concepts, practices, alliances, and bridges into the organization's framework. Regarding international issues, she stated that the CPLP aims to participate more actively.
The Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs addressed relevant issues, including the future challenges of the CPLP amid international instability and the Portuguese State's position on recent developments in Guinea-Bissau's political situation. International issues were also discussed, particularly the current global turbulence and instability.
Permanent representatives to the CPLP attended the meeting, coinciding with Timor-Leste's presidency of the organization, which is preparing for its 30th anniversary. Founded on July 17, 1996, in Lisbon, the CPLP aims to promote the Portuguese language and cooperation among its members, including Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau (currently suspended), Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, So Tom© and Prncipe, and Timor-Leste.
