Luanda: The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (MIREX), Domingos Viera Lopes, stated on Wednesday in Luanda that the ratification of the revised statutes of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) represents a strategic step for Angola, bringing political, economic, and institutional advantages to the country.
According to Angola Press News Agency, during the 3rd Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the National Assembly, a Draft Resolution approving the ratification of the CPLP's statutes was passed. The official emphasized that the revision of the statutes enhances Angola's leadership and initiative within the organization, as Angola was the proponent of the amendments and actively participates in defining the new strategic agenda of the CPLP.
Domingos Viera Lopes underscored the formal consolidation of the CPLP's economic aspect, which aligns with Angola's commitment to the integrated and sustainable development of the Lusophone space. This strengthened economic dimension is expected to create new opportunities within the community, boosting the Portuguese-speaking economic space.
The official further noted that the revisions introduce greater institutional coherence, achieved by updating normative references and promoting equitable representation, including gender equality in the organization's executive bodies. Ratification will also allow Angola to maintain an active role in defining the CPLP agenda and coordinating between member states, reinforcing the country's image as a state committed to multilateral cooperation, sustainable development, and the promotion of the Portuguese language.
