Cuanza-Sul Veterinary Dept to Vaccinate 165,000 Head of Cattle in Ambitious Campaign

Cuanza-sul: The Veterinary Service in the province of Cuanza-Sul has initiated a comprehensive campaign to vaccinate 165,000 head of cattle over a three-month period. This initiative began on Wednesday in the town of Cassonga, located in the municipality of Gangula.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the campaign includes the efforts of 69 technicians and an initial stock of 140,000 doses of vaccines, with additional supplies expected to arrive soon. The primary goal is to vaccinate all cattle within the province, with support from the provincial cooperative, various associations, and individual breeders. The campaign also includes technical measures and equipment aimed at preventing and controlling livestock diseases.

On the campaign's launch, Jos© Carlos Manuel, Director of the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries office in Cuanza-Sul, highlighted the province's importance, noting its rank as the fourth-largest cattle breeding region in the country. He also addressed recent challenges, including a severe shortage of pasture that resulted in the loss of over 4,000 head of cattle.

Jos© Manuel emphasized that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, in collaboration with local government and the Cuanza-Sul Livestock Breeders Cooperative, is actively working on strategies to mitigate the impact of climate change on livestock farming in the region.

Francisco Figueiredo Jºnior, Head of the Cuanza-Sul Livestock Breeders Cooperative, called for the establishment of conditions conducive to modern, resilient, and sustainable livestock farming. He advocated for implementing programs focused on feed supplement production, hay storage, reliable water supply, and enhanced technical and financial support for breeders.
