Luanda:The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is counting on Angola's assistance to conclude the peace and security efforts in its eastern region. This includes fulfilling commitments related to disarmament, demobilization, and cantonment of forces involved in the ongoing conflict.
According to Angola Press News Agency, DRC's Minister of Regional Integration, Floribert Anzuluni Isiloketshi, expressed this position during a visit to Luanda. He had discussions with President Joo Louren§o, serving as a special envoy of Congolese President F©lix Tshisekedi, on the security situation in the eastern DRC and the progress of peace process commitments.
Isiloketshi emphasized Angola's significant role in the regional pacification process and described it as a strategic partner in both regional and international contexts. He noted that Angola has been engaged in the peace process from its inception and that the DRC relies on Angola's continued involvement to meet the agreed commitments.
The special envoy reaffirmed the DRC's dedication to fulfilling obligations related to disarmament, demobilization, and cantonment. He stated that Tshisekedi's government is committed to completing these tasks and transforming political agreements into concrete actions for reducing forces and stabilizing eastern DRC.
Isiloketshi also discussed the coordination between the Luanda process and the Washington Agreement, highlighting the former's role in facilitating diplomatic efforts that led to subsequent understandings. He pointed out that elements of the Luanda process are continuing under the Washington Agreement, within the African Union's mediation framework.
Regular contacts between Angola and the DRC continue, focusing on the evolving conflict in eastern DRC and initiatives aimed at regional peace. The minister's visit to Luanda is part of these ongoing diplomatic efforts, as both countries seek to advance the implementation of the peace commitments established in the Luanda and Washington processes.
