Elections 2022/Sumbe: MPLA announces resumption of infrastructure rehabilitation

Luanda – MPLA leader João Lourenço announced Wednesday the resumption of the rehabilitation of integrated infrastructures in Sumbe, Cuanza Sul province, if he is re-elected President of the Republic.

Speaking at the mass political rally, on the outskirts of Sumbe, he said that it was about the rehabilitation of the inner streets of  Sumbe city and a ring road, to facilitate the heavy vehicles traffic, without passing through urban areas.

He acknowledged that the streets of the city of Sumbe are quite degraded, due to the excessive use of high-tonnage vehicles, stressing that the two projects are on the list of priorities, as financial solutions have been found for their execution.

The MPLA leader for the 2022 general elections said that the projects aim to make the streets, inside the city of Sumbe, stop supporting high-tonnage vehicles, which cross the province towards other regions of the country.

In his speech, as part of his party’s electoral campaign, João Lourenço revealed that the two projects will be carried out simultaneously, to improve movement, not only in the province of Cuanza Sul, but also across the country.

The works on the Sumbe city ring road, with a length of 24 kilometers, passing through the town of Cuacra to the road that connects the municipality of Seles, started in 2017 and were interrupted in November 2019 due to unavailability of financial resources.

Eight political parties, including one coalition are running for the fifth general election on August 24, after those held in 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2017.

Roughly 14.3 million voters, of whom 22,560 living abroad are eligible to cast their vote in the upcoming elections.
