Luanda: Nearly 100 members of the Northern Military Region Command were made aware this Friday at the provincial headquarters of Uíge about the importance of observing the Highway Code, a move aimed at reducing road accidents in the region. According to Angola Press News Agency, the initiative was led by the National Police Provincial Command and included a lecture aimed at raising public awareness of the need for safe and non-excessive traffic. José Paulo, the provincial director of the Department of Traffic and Road Safety, addressed the media, emphasizing the department's focus on educating motorists and the general public on the significance of road preservation. He highlighted the role of the Angolan Armed Forces in enhancing social life and their potential impact on reducing accidents. Paulo also discouraged the transport of passengers in goods vehicles, citing the risk of fatal injuries in accidents. The lecture delved into the causes and consequences of traffic accidents, highlighting that during th e first half of this year, Uíge recorded 220 traffic accidents, resulting in 68 deaths and 504 injuries. This represents a five-fold increase compared to the same period last year. Road safety prevention efforts focus on minimizing the number and severity of traffic accidents through measures such as vehicle maintenance, awareness of driving factors, compliance with traffic laws, and the adoption of safe driving practices.
