Luanda: At least 63 individual farmers and farmers organized in associations and cooperatives in the province of Lunda Norte have applied for funding from the Agricultural Development Support Fund (FADA) ranging from 10 to 50 million kwanzas, converted into equipment. Speaking to ANGOP on Thursday, the director of the provincial office of Agriculture and Fisheries in Lunda Norte, Delfim Mussulo, stated that of the 63 applications, 58 requested tractors and five for motorized cultivators.
According to Angola Press News Agency, after the applications, the next step will be to evaluate the processes and send FADA technicians to the fields to assess their size and production levels for subsequent approval of the applications for the appropriate funding. FADA requires applicants to have at least ten hectares of land with surface title, an acceptable level of production, completion of an economic feasibility form, and a taxpayer number.
As part of the program to accelerate family farming and food security, the funding comprises two packages. The first is converted into equipment such as tractors, implements, motor cultivators, ploughs, harrows, as well as processing equipment, mills, seeders, among others, with an interest rate of 1 percent. The second package provides for financing of five million kwanzas to serve as working capital, enabling beneficiaries to maintain their equipment and purchase seeds.
The amounts must be repaid within five years, with FADA ensuring that technicians from the sector will assist farmers. To date, FADA has financed 54 different pieces of equipment in Lunda-Norte, with a total value of 600 billion kwanzas.
In the next agricultural season, the province of Lunda Norte expects to produce 2,764,479 tonnes of various products on an area of 350,561 hectares of land. In the previous campaign (2024/25), the province produced 2,515,858 tonnes of various products, compared to 2 million tonnes in the 2023/25 season.
