First Lady Ana Dias Louren§o Opens Eiffel High School in Huambo

Huambo: The First Lady of Angola, Ana Dias Louren§o, has inaugurated the newly constructed Eiffel high school located in the Cambiote neighborhood on the outskirts of Huambo. This educational institution was officially opened on Friday, marking a significant development in the region's educational infrastructure.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the school was built in under eighteen months and has the capacity to accommodate 150 students across six classrooms. It is equipped with three laboratories, a computer room, a media library, a library, a sports court, and a soccer field, providing comprehensive facilities for both academic and extracurricular activities.

This high school is the sixth of its kind in Angola, funded by the oil sector's social responsibility program. Prior to this, similar institutions have been established in Cunene, Bengo, Cuanza-Norte, Malange, and Moxico, the latter of which was inaugurated simultaneously with the Huambo school, catering to a total of 3,000 students.

The project was made possible through investments by the National Agency for Petroleum, Gas, and Biofuels (ANPG) and Block 32, operated by TotalEnergies. The initiative was in partnership with Sonangol E and P, SSI, ExxonMobil, and Etu Energias. The event saw the presence of key figures such as the Minister of Education, Lusa Grilo, the provincial governor, Pereira Alfredo, and the French ambassador to Angola, Sophie Aubert.

The educational community expressed appreciation for the government's dedication to education, highlighting that the school will offer scientific and technical courses in both Portuguese and French. Following the inauguration ceremony, the First Lady distributed educational materials to the students and toured various facilities at the school, joined by the Education Minister and the provincial governor.

In a move to foster environmental awareness, several trees were planted in the schoolyard. This symbolic act underscores the importance of environmental preservation as part of the students' education, along with providing shade and enhancing the school's aesthetics.

In the Huambo province, this academic year saw the enrollment of 887,350 students across all general education subsystems, with education delivered by 15,454 teachers in 800 schools.
