Foreign Minister to head Tunisia’s delegation to 78th session of the UN General Assembly

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, will head the Tunisian delegation participating in the high-level segment of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA, on behalf of President Kais Saied.

The ministry said in a statement on Saturday that the general discussion of this session will focus on the theme “Rebuilding trust and reinvigorating global solidarity: Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals for peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all,” noting that the foreign minister will deliver Tunisia’s speech on the occasion.

Nabil Ammar will represent Tunisia at various high-level events on the session’s agenda, notably the SDG Summit, the Climate Ambition Summit, the High-Level Meeting on Financing for Development, the Ministerial Preparatory Meeting for the Summit for the Future, and the General Assembly High-Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage.

The Foreign Minister “will carry the voice of Africa during these events, building on Tunisia’s chairmanship of the African Group in New York this month,» the ministry added in the statement.

In addition to these major events, the Foreign Minister will participate in the Consultative Meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers, the Ministerial Meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee for the Coordination of Assistance to the Palestinian People, the Ministerial Meeting on the Strengthening of African Cooperation in the Fight against Terrorism and the meeting of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union.

Nabil Ammar will hold bilateral meetings on ways to strengthen cooperation and discuss ways to diversify Tunisia’s external partnerships. He will also meet with a number of senior UN officials and senior officials from a number of international and regional organisations.
