Lubango: The Secretary of State for Higher Education Eugenio Silva on Wednesday in Lubango, urged for strengthened scientific research and innovation in universities to ensure more scientific production and promote quality and sustainable development in the country.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Silva made the statement at the opening of the second International Congress on Science Education organized by the Higher Institute of Science and Education (ISCED) of Huila. The congress is taking place under the motto "Innovation and Inclusion in Science Education: Building Knowledge for the Future."
Silva appealed to institutions to avoid becoming "mere reproducers of knowledge" and advocated for the consolidation of scientific production, the creation of research centers, and the promotion of specialized journals and academic dissemination platforms, including the National Scientific Repository. He stated that the congress represents "a breath of fresh air" for the academic system by promoting debates around innovative practices and the integration of digital tools, such as artificial intelligence.
Silva praised ISCED-Hula's role in organizing the event and welcomed partner universities' participation, especially from the University of Aveiro in Portugal. He noted that the exchange of experiences brings new perspectives and approaches to scientific education in Angola. The event brings together over a thousand participants, including teachers, researchers, students, and education professionals from Angola, Portugal, Brazil, and Canada. The congress aims to promote innovative and inclusive pedagogical practices at all levels of education.
Its objectives include empowering educators, fostering national and international exchange, and consolidating collaborative networks between educational and research institutions. The expected results include improving the technical and scientific skills of teachers and students, applying new methodologies in practice, and encouraging the transformation of science education in Angola.
A total of 72 presentations will be given, covering diverse areas of knowledge and fostering discussion among participants. Additionally, 102 scientific abstracts will be presented and recently published in the congress's book of abstracts.
