Luanda: An industrial complex comprising five manufacturing units for construction materials, owned by the Chinese business group "Phoenix Bridge," was inaugurated on Tuesday in the Bom Jesus area of Icolo e Bengo province. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was performed by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rui Minguªns de Oliveira, and the Governor of Icolo e Bengo province, Auzlio Jacob. The event was attended by Chinese Ambassador Zhan Bi and other guests.
According to Angola Press News Agency, construction of the units began in June 2024. The complex spans an area of 12 hectares (41,000 m²) and represents an investment of approximately USD 300 million. "Phoenix" Director General Song Zhuoya explained that the complex produces electrical wires and cables, solid wood wall panels, doors, galvanized steel air conditioning ducts, natural stone products, and extruded polystyrene (XPS) boards.
He noted that the facilities currently employ 180 workers, the majority of whom are Angolan. He added that, prior to the start of the second phase in 2027, they plan to hire an additional 500 Angolan employees, all with guaranteed social security coverage.
Meanwhile, Icolo e Bengo Provincial Governor Auzlio Jacob praised the venture, highlighting its role in boosting the "Made in Angola" brand and fostering economic development. According to the official, the implementation of this industrial project will support the livelihoods of many local families, particularly young people securing their first jobs.
