Luanda: The Italian Embassy in Angola is set to launch a series of cultural initiatives aimed at enhancing bilateral relations in the cultural sector, as announced by Italian Ambassador Marco Ricci during an event in Luanda.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the announcement was made at the screening of the film "A Proposito dell' Angola," held by the Italian embassy as part of the fiftieth anniversary celebrations of Angola's Independence, which falls on November 11th. Ambassador Ricci expressed his desire to establish a film co-production agreement to invigorate the film industry in Angola. He intends to propose this agreement to Angola's Culture Minister, Filipe Zau, with hopes of swift implementation to foster a thriving cultural and creative industry.
Ricci also mentioned plans to enhance cooperation in the theater and music sectors, stating that there are many ideas to explore. He highlighted the significance of the film "Regarding Angola" as it was the first to draw European and Western public attention to Angola's liberation struggle. The film presents a poignant portrayal of the colonial period's harshness, coupled with the hope and resilience of a people yearning for freedom. Ricci emphasized the importance of preserving this collective memory for future generations.
The diplomatic ties between Angola and Italy are historically strong, with Italy being the first Western European country to recognize Angola's independence in February 1976. The two nations established diplomatic relations in the same year, and their relationship has been further solidified through frequent high-level visits and meetings. The deep bond between the countries was notably strengthened following the 2002 Peace Accords and Angola's subsequent economic growth.
