Saurimo: President Joo Louren§o arrived in the city of Saurimo, the capital of Lunda-Sul province, for a working visit that included the inauguration of the Higher Polytechnic Institute of the Lueji A'nkonde University.
According to Angola Press News Agency, President Louren§o, accompanied by First Lady Ana Dias Louren§o, was welcomed at Deolinda Rodrigues Airport by local governor Daniel Neto and members of the Executive. The new institute, located in the municipality of Muangueji, approximately six kilometers from Saurimo, boasts modern infrastructure with 57 classrooms.
The facility includes 11 specialized laboratories in fields such as engineering, nursing, anatomy, chemistry, electromechanics, physics, and mineralogy. It also features an auditorium with 320 seats, a computer room, and two multi-sports fields, along with offices, classrooms, a library, a hospital, a cafeteria, and a refectory.
The project, with a budget of US$44 million, will offer 13 courses including civil engineering, electricity, mining, mechanics, history, computer science, electromechanics, metallurgy, mathematics, pedagogy, nursing, biology, and administration and management. It has a capacity for 5,400 students across three shifts, with 1,207 places currently available.
The infrastructure was funded by the diamond trading company Sodiam E.P., as part of its social responsibility initiative. Construction spanned three years and was carried out by the national construction company Engevia, covering a total area of 94,400 square meters, with the built area encompassing 14,900 square meters.
