Luanda: A delegation of health experts and trainers from Kenya visited the Viana General Hospital, also known as "Bispo Emlio de Carvalho," and the Cacuaco General Hospital, "Her³is do Kifangondo," in Luanda. This visit aimed to gain insights into the operations of these hospitals as part of the cooperative efforts between Angola and Kenya. According to Angola Press News Agency, the visit's main goal was to bolster cooperation between the two nations, concentrating on healthcare provision, human resource development, and the exchange of experiences and best practices. At Viana General Hospital, the Kenyan specialists toured various departments and studied the current medical training programs. Jacinta Figueiredo, a member of the medical staff, mentioned that 402 professionals are currently undergoing training, including 51 interns.
During the visit, the hospital management announced plans for the unit's first scientific conference this year, focusing on "innovation and technology in health." Kenya's Ambassador to Angola, Joyce Khasimwa M'Maitsi, expressed interest in involving Kenyan specialists in these training sessions, covering topics such as trauma, critical care, and technologies in medical training.
At Cacuaco General Hospital, the delegation explored the emergency department, orthopedics, and the central operating room, which is equipped with technology for remote transmission and monitoring of surgeries. The maternity ward at this hospital carries out an average of 15 deliveries per day, with six being cesarean sections. The delegation also visited the hospital's satellite library, accredited for training in maternity and orthopedics.
Paulo Salamanka, another medical staff member, highlighted that Cacuaco General Hospital is a national reference for childhood cancer treatment and ultrasound-guided prostate biopsies as part of minimally invasive procedures. The visit underscored Angola and Kenya's commitment to enhancing their healthcare systems and appreciating the professionals within this sector.
